This clause specifies the information requirements for the Product specification or set application module.
The information requirements are specified as a set of units of functionality, application elements, and application assertions. These assertions pertain to individual application entities and to relationships between application entities. The information requirements are defined using the terminology of the subject area of this application module.

This subclause specifies the units of functionality (UoF) for the Product specification or set application module as well as any support elements needed for the module definition. This part of ISO 10303 specifies the following units of functionality:
This part of ISO 10303 uses the following units of functionality:
NOTE - The Engineering analysis basics AM contains supertypes of the application objects in this AM. These supertypes have no attributes and merely clarify the meaning of the application objects. These supertypes have no impact on the MIM.
The units of functionality and a description of the functions that each UoF supports are given below.
The Product_specification_or_set UoF records the existence of one of the following:
a specific product specification;
This can be a requirement or a design. Both a requirement and a design consist of one or more deemed criteria which an individual product can comply with or not. An analyst can predict consequences of compliance with the criteria.
EXAMPLE - 'Part type XYZ_123' is a specific product specification. A individual product can comply with the criteria within this specification or not. If an individual product complies with all the criteria, then it is a part of type XYZ_123.
a product occurrence;
This is a usage of a requirement or a design. A product occurrence has position is an assembly or usage in an activity as a criterion.
EXAMPLE - 'Bolt type B_567 in position P_8 within part type XYZ_123' is a product occurrence.
an explicit set of individual products.
EXAMPLE - The parts of type XYZ_123 produced by J. Bloggs and Co. in 1998 is an explicit set of individual products.
EXAMPLE - The parts of type XYZ_123 with serial numbers 98/001 to 98/035 is an explicit set of individual products.
The following application objects are used by the Product_specification_or_set UoF:
This UoF is defined in the Engineering_analysis_basics module. The following application entities from this UoF are referenced in the Product specification or set module:
