NAFEMS benchmarks, STEP and the Web

The NAFEMS benchmarks are being published on the Web, as part of a continuing program carried out in conjuction with the PDES Inc Engineering Analysis team. The following are available for a benchmark:

• the text in HTML;
• the geometry defined as a STEP part 203 file;
• the finite element model defined as a STEP part 209 file;
• finite element results (posted by vendors, users or academics) as a STEP part 209 file.

The use of STEP makes the benchmark definitions and posted results computer interpretable. This means that they can be displayed, meshed or analysed by STEP compliant tools, without the need for manual re-coding.
